12 Days of AI Use Cases Day 6 Competitive SWOT Analysis

12 Days of AI Use Cases Day 6: Competitive SWOT Analysis

Welcome to the 12 Days of AI Use Cases!

In this series, we’ll be looking at different use cases for AI – in particular, generative AI and large language models, the software that powers tools like ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Anthropic Claude. Each day, we’ll look at the use case through the lens of the Trust Insights 5P Framework to see the role AI plays in achieving real, tangible outcomes.

These use cases are designed not only to be read, but also to be given to the generative AI tool as part of a prompt to help you achieve the outcomes you’re after. Ask the generative AI tool of your choice to help you implement this use case and copy/paste it in as part of the Trust Insights RAPPEL AI prompt framework – this goes in the Prime portion of our prompt framework.

Let’s dig in!

Purpose

Marketing teams need to understand their competitive position to develop effective strategies. This use case leverages generative AI to conduct focused SWOT analyses of specific competitors, producing actionable insights and strategic recommendations. Unlike traditional manual analysis, AI processes vast amounts of competitive data quickly and identifies patterns humans might miss.

People

Primary Actor

The Business Analyst leads the analysis process. They collect competitive data, structure it for AI processing, and translate AI outputs into actionable recommendations. The analyst must understand both SWOT analysis methodology and generative AI capabilities to effectively guide the process.

Stakeholders

Business management teams consume and act on the analysis. This includes executives, board members, and department heads who need competitive insights to make strategic decisions. These stakeholders expect clear, actionable recommendations backed by data-driven analysis.

Process

  • Select a specific competitor and analysis dimension (social media, content marketing, hiring, etc.)
  • Gather competitor data using appropriate monitoring tools
  • Extract relevant metrics and information
  • Structure data for AI processing
  • Upload data to the chosen AI platform
  • Provide the AI with SWOT analysis framework and definitions
  • Generate initial SWOT analysis focusing on:
    • Your company’s strengths (internal advantages)
    • Your company’s weaknesses (internal limitations)
    • Opportunities (competitor weaknesses)
    • Threats (competitor strengths)
  • Review and validate AI insights
  • Create action plans for each SWOT component
  • Package findings and recommendations for stakeholders

Platform

  • Primary AI Tool: Google Gemini Pro (preferred for large context window)
  • Alternative AI Tools:
    • Claude by Anthropic (secondary choice)
    • ChatGPT (tertiary option)
  • Social media monitoring software
  • Data extraction tools specific to chosen analysis dimension
  • Documentation tools for report creation
  • Presentation software for stakeholder communications

Performance

Primary Goal

Produce a clear, actionable competitive strategy plan that identifies specific competitive advantages and vulnerabilities. Success means delivering a document that enables immediate strategic decision-making and resource allocation. The plan must include specific, measurable actions for each SWOT component.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Completion of all four SWOT components with specific, actionable insights
  • Generation of measurable action items for each SWOT element
  • Stakeholder acceptance and implementation of recommendations
  • Long-term tracking of competitive position improvements in analyzed dimensions
